Worship and Praise
worSHIP AND PRAISE
8/2/00
Worship means, “to feel in the heart,” that's first--then “feel it in the heart.”
A person that merely goes through the form and doesn't feel anything is not worshiping.
Worship also means to “express in some appropriate manner” what you feel.
What will be expressed?
“A humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe and astonished wonder.” It is delightful to worship God, but is also a humbling thing; and the man who has not been humbled in the presence of God will never be a worshiper of God at all.
There will be a humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe. If there is not fear of God in our hearts, there can be no worship of God.
You will experience the awesome wonder & overpowering love in the presence of that Ancient Mystery, that Unspeakable Majesty, which the philosophers call the Mysterium Tremendem, but which we call Our Father which art in heaven.
I have to exclaim here a big Hallelujah!
True worship is that we must put God first in our lives
You must never worship any God but Jehovah; obey His commands and cling to Him. Then the Lord God will instruct you and guide you along the best pathway for your life. He will advise us and watch our progress. His abiding love will surround those who trust in Him and put Him first. So rejoice in Him and shout for joy and bask in His everlasting love.
God put us first when He gave His only Son to die for us while we were still sinners. Jesus Christ, who, though He was God, did not demand and cling to His right as God but laid aside His mighty power and glory. He took the disguise of a slave and became like man. He humbled Himself even further, going as far as actually dying a criminal's death on the cross. How long, how wide, how deep and how high His love for us really is. He put our salvation first ahead of His Son; His Son put us first above Himself, so who are we not to worship Him and put Him first in our lives.
Just lift up your hands now and thank the Father for the Son, and thank the Son for dying for us and sending us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit to indwell us and empower us. Praise Him all ye children Praise Him; Adore Him-shout for joy all ye saints! Make a joyful noise into the Lord.
We worship Him as Elohim -God the Creator.
Worship Him as Elohim-Creator of heaven and earth, who was in the beginning. Elohim-Creator-our Creator made us; He created us with glory & honor. He is the God of might and strength -Hallowed be His name.
In the beginning God, Elohim created man; as Elohim, God is the Creator. As Jehovah, He is covenant relation with man. Elohim-God-Jehovah formed the body of man from the dust of the ground, but only the impartation of the breath of God made him a living being.
The majesty of the Lord is evident in all creation. Every area of natural science teems with evidence of the wisdom and power of the Creator. God's glory is higher than the heavens. The planets, the stars, the limitless universe give only a partial view of how very great God really is. No branch of science proclaims God's greatness and man's insignificance more eloquently than astronomy.
The simple fact that distance must be reckoned in light years. Light travels 186,000 miles per second and there are 331.5 million seconds in a year, so light travels roughly six trillion miles in a single year. Yet some stars are billions of light years from the earth.
To gaze into the heavens at night should give us great thought about God. The moon and the stars are the work of Elohim-Jehovah God's fingers. When we think of the numberless myriad's of stars, of the vast distances in the universe and of the power that holds the planets in orbit with mathematical precision, it boggles the mind. Relatively speaking, the planet earth is a speck of dust in the universe.
What is man compared to the universe-we are but dust also, God so loved us that He gave thought to our creation. He made us in His image and after His own likeness. Though lower than God, man shares with Him some faculties that are not shared by any other creation on earth. Everything God made was pronounced to be good, but the verdict on the creation of man was "very good". Even after sin entered the world, God's purpose for man still stands-His love is so great-He knew me before Calvary- O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! Let us Praise Him as Elohim-Jehovah God our covenant loving God.
Saints how can we not praise our Creator. I am in awe that He knew me before He knit me together in my mother's womb. He knew what my name would be; He knew what color of hair and what color my eyes would be. He knew all the mistakes I would make; and the sins I would commit. But yet, He loved me enough to come to the earth and humble Himself to become man, who would suffer and die for my sins. Again I have to exclaim, "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! Hallowed be Thy name on earth and in the heavens. I exalt You, I honor You, and I praise You. I glorify and magnify Your holy name. "
Alleluia! I praise You as my King of Kings and Lord of Lords. You are worthy of glory and honor and power because You created all things and by Your will they exist.
O, come Saints of God lets lift us our hands and worship our Creator. Worship Him as the Bright and Morning Star. Worship Him as the One who will wipe away every tear from our eyes for the One on the throne who will make all things new for His words are true and faithful. He is the Alpha & the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Creator and Object of Creation, the One who began, and the One who finishes -the Eternal One. It is He who gives the water of life (salvation) freely to whoever thirsts for it. He is the One who blesses the over comer with total inheritance and a new intimacy with Father and Son.
We worship Him as Jehovah [Yahweh] our covenant relationship with man
We are not to doubt his love- God says, “Seek My face” But, in God's love and mercy, He always searches for His fallen creatures with a question- “Where are you?”
Man is lost and that God, had come to seek.
Man's sin and God's grace.
God takes the initiative in salvation, demonstrating the very thing Satan persuaded Eve to doubt -His love.
Three Important Covenant Events
Jacob feared revenge when he remembered his brother Esau, (Genesis 32). Jacob's prayer to God was born out of a desperate sense of a need for divine protection. It was based on the ground of covenant relationship, which the Lord had established with him and his forefathers and it was prayed in humility of spirit. He based his plea on the word of the Lord and claimed the promises of God.
God had made covenant with Abram by promising descendants as numerous as the dust and as numerous as the stars. To confirm His promise of a seed and of a land, God cut covenant with Abram. God above, whose presence was symbolized by a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire, passed through the midst of the pieces of the slain animals, while Abram was simply a spectator of this wonderful exhibition of God's free grace. This signified that it was an unconditional Covenant, dependant for fulfillment on God.
Before Jesus' death and after observing His last Passover, the Savior instituted what we now know as the Lord's Supper. He became for us our Passover Lamb, the ultimate sacrifice-Jesus Himself walked through the midst of the pieces of His broken body for us so that we may inherit eternal life by grace-unconditional Covenant dependant for fulfillment on God alone. (Grace)
It is time to sing praises to God and to clear the way for the Lord in the deserts. His name is YAH, the Covenant keeping Jehovah; He is worthy of endless praise. Though He is infinitely high, yet He is intimately near to the friendless and the dispossessed. As the God of all grace, He is Father of the fatherless, defender of the widows. He provides the warmth and fellowship of a happy home for the lonely, and for those who have been unjustly condemned to prison. He leads them into prosperity with shouts of joy!
You are worthy, O Lord of homage and praise. You are the Transcendent One, who rides in the ancient heavens. You are the God of Revelation, speaking with a mighty voice. You are the Omnipotent One, strong on behalf of Israel, but almighty beyond the clouds.
You are awesome in Your holy places; yet, You stoop down to give strength and power to Your people. Blessed Be God! (Ps 68:32-35)
Worship by putting God first
Worship Him as Elohim-God our Creator
Worship Him as our Covenant Relation God of Love
Worship Him in faith
Adam had faith when he named Eve, which means the mother of all living since she bore the first child in creation. Also after the fall of Adam, God provided tunics of skins through the death of an animal. These pictures the robe of righteousness, which is provided for guilty sinners through the shed blood of the Lamb of God, made available to us on the basis of faith.
Abram had faith when Jehovah God promised him a son and descendants as numerous as the stars. Humanly speaking, this was impossible since Sarai has passed the time when she could bear a child. But Abram believed God's promise, and God declared him righteous.
When Isaac, the Son of Promise, was born to Abraham and Sarah, Abraham had faith when God ordered him to offer up Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham's love for his son symbolizes God's love for the Lord Jesus. The sacrifice of Isaac was a picture of the greatest act of worship-just like the Savior's self-sacrifice to accomplish the will of God.
Abraham believed that even if he slew his son, God would raise him from the dead. This faith was remarkable because there was no record case of resurrection up to this time in the world's history. Abraham was first justified by faith, then justified (vindicated) by works. His faith was the means of his salvation, while his works were the proof of the reality of his faith.
A gentile woman in the NT was blessed for her faith in the Lord Jesus. Jesus was at the region of Tyre and Sidon, a Phoenicia, a Canaanite woman asked Jesus to heal her daughter who was demon-possessed. When speaking to Jesus, she addressed Him as the Lord, the Son of David, and a title, which the Jews used in speaking of the Messiah. She worshiped Him saying, "Lord, Help me!" This woman could not come to Him as a Jew to her Messiah; she came as a creature to her Creator. She acknowledged her unworthiness to receive His mercy, by admitting her unworthiness. The Lord Jesus commended her for her great faith and He healed her daughter instantly.
By faith the two blind men in Jericho called out to Jesus ..."Have Mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!" When Jesus asked what they wanted, they replied, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened." Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes; immediately they were healed.
By faith a leper is cleansed: And behold a leper came and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing You can make me clean." Then Jesus put out His hand saying, "I am willing; be cleansed. (Matthew 8:2-3)."
Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him pleading with Him saying, "Lord my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." The centurion answered and said, "Lord I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word and my servant, will be healed. By faith the centurion servant was healed that very hour! (Matthew 8: 5-13)
I bless Your name, Jehovah-Rapha, my Healer and the One Who makes bitter experiences sweet. You sent Your Word and healed me. You forgave me all my iniquities and You healed all my diseases. Hallowed be Thy Name! We worship You and we adore You, the Most High God Who is the First cause of everything, the Possessor of the heavens and earth. You are the Everlasting-God the Great-God, the Living -God, the Merciful-God, the Righteousness, Perfection. You are El-Elyon-the Highest Sovereign of the heavens and the earth. Hallowed be Thy Name!
We must worship by putting God first.
We must worship Him as Elohim, Creator of all heaven and earth.
We must worship Him as Jehovah God- Our covenant relation God of love.
We must worship him in faith.
We must worship Him with a repentant heart.
If we have sin in our heart we are bound up in anger and guilt and it will destroy our relationship with God. Cain let his anger and jealousy of Abel led him into evil action by killing his brother over jealously.
Though Abel is dead, he still witnesses to us that the life of faith is the life that counts. Cain did not have faith in God, so therefore his worship or sacrifice was unacceptable. So in order to worship our Lord we must come before Him with a repentant heart.
Our sin caused the death of God's Son. It causes us to fall short of what God intends. It brings pain and sorrow to others, as well as to ourselves. There cannot be repentance without the realization of the gravity of sin. Regret for sin's consequences is not the same as sorrow for sinning against holy God. Confession is not necessarily an indication of repentance. Repentance comes only when we acknowledge that our transgression has come from a heart that is far from God, and we are brokenhearted over our grievous offenses against Holy God. Do not try to skip the grieving process of repentance in order to move on to experience joy. God will not leave you to weep over your sin but will forgive you, comfort you, and fill you with His joy.
We must worship by putting God first.
We must worship Him as Elohim, Creator of all heaven and earth.
We must worship Him as Jehovah God- Our covenant relation God of love.
We must worship him in faith.
We must worship with a repentant heart
We should worship the Lord with a steady, progressive relationship, not just a casual acquaintance
To walk with God is the business of a lifetime, and not just the performance of an hour. Enoch walked with God for 300 years and pleased the Lord. Enoch was transported to heaven prior to the flood just as the church will be raptured to heaven before the Tribulation begins.
As we worship God we must be obedient to His commandments.
Noah was saved by grace, an act of divine sovereignty. His response was to do all that God had commanded; an act of human responsibility. Noah built the Ark to save the family, but it was God who shut and sealed the door. Noah and Enoch are the only men in scripture who are said to have walked with God. Enoch is a symbol of the church raptured to heaven; Noah symbolizes the faithful Jewish remnant preserved through Tribulation to live on the millennial earth.
So we enter into worship by putting God first
We must worship Him as Elohim, Creator of all heaven and earth.
We must worship Him as Jehovah God- Our covenant relation God of love.
We must worship him in faith.
We must worship Him with a repentant heart.
We must worship with a steady progressive relationship, not just a casual acquaintance.
So by the faith and obedience Enoch and Noah exemplified by walking with the Lord, so must we.
Worship by truly honoring our Lord Jesus by exalting Him
Jesus was exalted to the Father's right hand and with the promise of the Holy Spirit was given to us as believers. Where Jesus is glorified and exalted the Holy Spirit comes. When Christ is truly honored, the Spirit comes.
We must worship, by lifting up our voices in praise and adoration and love with thanksgiving in our hearts. Here we call on our soul to bless the Lord -and by our soul we mean not just the non-material part of our nature, but the entire person. Spirit-soul-and bodies are cued in to bless the Holy name of Jehovah. We should be thankful to Him for forgiving all our iniquities. It is an unspeakable miracle of divine grace that crimson sins can be made white as snow. We should be thankful for Him healing all our diseases. Remember that healing comes after forgiveness. The physical is closely related to the spiritual. He is our Jehovah Raphi-the Lord Your Healer.
We extol and bless Him as the God of restoration. He is a great Lord-mighty in power, and infinite in understanding. He revives and perks up the oppressed, and throws down their wicked oppressors. We should sing our gratitude to Him, for the clouds that spread across the heavens. He should be thanked and praised for His providence in nature. We should make melody to Him for the rain and all it means to the earth. We should praise Him for the grass that covers the hills.
Praise Him as our Omnipotent Creator. He made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all the creatures in the universe.
Praise Him as the Dependable One. He keeps truth forever. It is impossible for Him to lie or go back on His word.
Praise Him as our Advocate of the helpless. He sees to it that the righteous are vindicated.
Praise Him as our Provider. He gives food to the hungry, both in spiritual and physical sense. He bring us into His banqueting house, and what a table He spreads!
Praise Him as our Emancipator. He sets the captives free-from human oppression, from the chains of sin, from the grip of the world, from bondage of the devil and from selfish living.
Praise Him as our Sight-Giver. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; some are blind physically, some mentally and spiritually, some by birth, some by accident, and some by choice. No case is too hard for Him.
Praise Him as our Up-Lifter. He lifts the flagging spirits of those who are bowed down beneath the burden of worry, affliction, trouble, and sorrow.
Praise Him as a Friend of the Bereft. He upholds the fatherless and the widow, and all others who have no human helper.
Praise Him as the Judge of the evil. He thwarts the best-laid plans of ungodly men and makes the way of the wicked end in ruin.
Last and not least we should praise Him as our Eternal King.
In contrast to man's transiency is the eternity of God. The Lord shall reign forever-to all generation. Praise the Lord. Aren't you glad you know him?
So we enter into worship by putting God first
We must worship Him as Elohim, Creator of all heaven and earth.
We must worship Him as Jehovah God- Our covenant relation God of love
We must worship him in faith.
We must worship Him with a repentant heart.
We must worship with a steady progressive relationship, not just a casual acquaintance.
We must worship Him by truly honoring our Lord Jesus by exalting Him.
He should also be worshiped as our redeemer.
The Lord God took a look at Abram and said, "I will make of this man a great nation." "I will give him a land forever, and through this man of tender heart, I shall bring forth a Redeemer." God intended to use Abraham and his offspring's as moral, spiritual, and financial examples to all men. He wanted to demonstrate how the blessing of the One True God could benefit mankind. Through the Hebrew's program of sacrifices, God painted a picture of how the Messiah would one day redeem the world from sin.
The crossing of the Red Sea is set forth as the greatest display of God's redemption power. "The Lord instructed Moses..."Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea." The Angel of God (Jesus our Redeemer) took His place as a pillar of cloud at the rear of the host of Israel, protecting them from the Egyptians. The pillar of cloud provided light for the Israelites and darkness for the Egyptians. At the bidding of Moses', the Red Sea parted.
In the Wilderness Israel continued to sin. In spite of all the proofs of God's love, their hearts were still unfaithful. Nothing God did pleased them. Despite God's miracles, they were compulsive grumblers. So from time to time Jehovah visited the nation with death and destruction. This seems to speak to the survivors for a while; they turned to the Lord, repented of their wickedness, and became earnest seekers. They realized what a refuge He had been to them, how He had redeemed them from the terrors of Egypt-The Lord showed tremendous restraint. Because of His super-abounding compassion, He forgave their chronic backsliding and withheld the disaster they deserved.
"For God so loved (John 3:16)." God the Father and Jesus so loved mankind that He was willing to give up Deity of Heaven and come to earth for the redemption of humankind. He literally humbled Himself for man, walked to the Cross-, and willingly gave His life for us. He became for us, the Sacrificial Passover Lamb. His blood and His Righteousness have redeemed us from our sins. Hallelujah!
He continually delivers us from dangers, accidents, tragedies and thus from going down to the grave. Only when we get to heaven will we realize how often we were protected by the personal intervention of our God from premature death.
We enter into worship by putting God first
We must worship Him as Elohim, Creator of all heaven and earth.
We must worship Him as Jehovah God- Our covenant relation God of love.
We must worship him in faith.
We must worship Him with a repentant heart.
We must worship with a steady progressive relationship, not just a casual acquaintance.
We must worship Him by truly honoring our Lord Jesus by exalting Him.
We must worship Him by lifting up our voices in praise and adoration and love with thanksgiving in our hearts.
We must worship Him as our redeemer.
Worship Him because He crowns us with loving-kindness and tender mercies
We are loved with an everlasting love and showered day by day with His mercy. He satisfies us with good things as long as we live. The Lord satisfies the longing heart and He does not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly.
In dealing with His people the LORD has shown Himself to be merciful and gracious. He guides, protects, and provides for every step of the way.
We, His people, are wayward, complaining, rebellious and disobedient. Yet, He will put up with a great deal before His anger flares. His mercy is steadfast in spite of our ingratitude. God's mercy is demonstrated in that He does not give us what we deserve. Another paid the penalty of our sins at the Cross-of Calvary. We who trust in the Savior, God can righteously pardon us. God's love in providing this wonderful plan of salvation is immeasurable.
The Lord is King, His throne is in the heavens. And His authority is universal! As such, He should be the object of praise by everyone and everything. Let every thing that has breath praise the Lord!
Worship Him in Holiness
Holiness means absolute purity of our walk before God, the words coming out of our mouth, and every thought in your mind-placing every detail of your life under the scrutiny of God Himself. Holiness is not simply what God gives us, but what God has given us, that is being exhibited in our lives.
He sits enthroned “above the cherubim.” The Lord is great in power and magnificence. He is the exalted Ruler over all the people on earth. We should honor His great and awesome name in acknowledgment of the fact that He is unimpeachably holy. We should extol Him, prostrating ourselves at his footstool. He is the God, who forgives, though He won't overlook our evil deeds.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty
Shout joyfully
Serve the Lord with gladness
Come before Him with singing
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving
Enter into His courts with praise
Be thankful to Him
We should praise Him for who He is, Lord -God -Creator -Owner -Shepherd
We should praise Him because of His attributes.
He is good -His mercy is everlasting -His truth endures to all generations.
He is Everlasting Perfect. His will and presence have ruled the eternities forever.
All of time and all of creation are His very own.
We have been created and blessed with the presence of eternal life and the knowledge of the Ruler of the Universe. Could it be He created us and blessed us with the privilege to be a loyal friend and companion of Himself? What an honor it is to be man. Let us truly worship Him and love and honor Him. He is the great I AM. The Most High God. Mr. Terry Kreider gave (this paragraph to me)
"Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving: let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord is the great God, and the great King above all Gods.
In His hand are the deep places of the earth. The heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker, for He our God, And we are the people of His pasture, the sheep of His hand." Psalms 95:1-7
Oh Lord You are my shield and strength; Your glory lifts me up.
The enemy stands against me, they rise -up all around
Come and help me Lord, arise and rescue me
From You and You alone, comes my Salvation. Psalms 3:18
The Lord is with me I'm not afraid, what can man do to me?
In my distress I cried to the Lord, when troubles come, He's there.
I'll put my trust in Adonai, what can man do to me? Psalms 118:5-9
In my heart I've hidden Your word O Lord, that I may not sin against You
Blessed are You, O Lord. Teach me the way of Your word
Now with my lips I will proclaim I will choose Your ways. Psalms 119: 11-13
As a deer thirst for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God (Adonai) Psalms 42:1
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the herald, the one who proclaims peace who brings tidings of good and proclaims deliverance. All your sentries raise their voices and shout together in triumph, for clearly they see the return of the Lord to Zion.
Isaiah 52:7
A quote from a song "with Pure Water" by Ester Horesh, written by Ellisheva Shomron
"He poured out His precious blood for my soul, and on His lonely and awesome Cross He gave me to drink, living waster for my soul, Adonai El Chai Yeshua
With pure water He washes my feet-my Lord, my God, my Master. With His Holy Spirit He fill's my spirit, my Lord-my God, my Maker. From His lonely and awesome Cross, He poured out His precious blood on my soul. He gives me living water to drink, the Lord the living God, Yeshua."
"In blessings I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the sands which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. "In your seed all nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice." Genesis 22:17-18
If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn away from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, You shall see Me no more till you say, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! "Baruch habba beshem Adonai. " Matthew 223:37-39
